Hello
Hi, Im Andrea So Loyal.
Let me start off by saying I am new to this blogging thing, so go easy on me.
I remain skeptical of blogging because I fondly remember LiveJournal in middle school being quite complain-y and hope its nothing like that. Lets keep it simple...and also fun.
In recent events, I graduated yesterday from The Art Institute of Colorado! I'm very excited to start a new career. My degree is in Design Management, and a lot of people don't know what that is.
Design Management is the bridge between Business marketing and management and Creativity in design. I first became interested in this subject when I found it infuriating that "certain" companies who make "certain" portable music devices, named after a "certain" fruit, made you invest in shelf-life product with no means to up-keep. By this I mean, if (1.) it breaks, you are then(2.) forced to spend a sizable amount of money on a (3.) new version, and when that breaks...(see 1.) But what happens to the first product? How many of these products are sitting around in someones old shoe box? Should we be thinking about how the product is going to end, when we build it? Shouldn't we be investing our hard-earned-this-economy-sucks-I-lost-my-job-to-a-younger-person money in something worth fixing instead of constantly upgrading?
I can't tell you that I am not at fault for this, too. I have a space phone, and love the interface, being a designer I do appreciate it, but at the same time, I feel that it could be doing more to lengthen the life of it's products. We can design our way out of this heap of old cellphones and cameras and computers. We can make things more sustainable, and don't we have an obligation to? Out of sight, out of mind wont work with transparent business. Thus, I went to school to become less ignorant on the subject. I still have a lot to learn, but my interest is fiery and, to stay true to my personality, I don't let things go very easily.
Thanks for reading my first blog post! I hope the next have some photos!
