Lady, New York.
So Its official! Im a New Yorker...kind of...more like 'I now live in New York'...kind of.
I recently moved to Brooklyn New York, and its been a wild ride so far. Ill spare you the gruesome details of how the lovely lady didn't take her rings off, before punching me in the throat, but the beginning of this journey was NOT pretty. I wouldn't say I thought it would be easy, but New York is NO. JOKE.
Feeling a little more confident now, Im working with Creative Circle on some freelancing gigs, and if I haven't said yet, I GOT INTO PARSONS GRADUATE PROGRAM! Im so jacked! I know I'll be pulling my hair out in a few weeks, but until then, Ive just been exploring and getting use to public transportation.
Im so excited for this new experience, and looking forward to learning more about something I already really love. I feel like I might meet some great people and maybe do something great with the new contacts and skills I make.
Sometimes its terrifying to think about how Im going back to school. The minute you leave school, you get this sense of relief. Your days of deadlines and under appreciation of your work are over! Then you enter the working world and its a new version of the same thing. You get paid this time, and you get benefits and make new friends, find new ways to operate, fall into a groove that you feel comfortable with and get a sense of self that you didn't previously have...but is that it? Is that what you do....for the rest of your life now? I guess Ive just always gotten nervous thinking that I might stop learning new things, or bettering myself. I originally avoided college because it meant I had to decide my next step. I had to PICK something. I feared that. Ive always wanted to do as much as I can with all of my talents. I get excited thinking about all of the things there are out there to know and learn and then using those things to better my own perspective.
I guess what Im saying is, being a life-time learner is my current career, and Im so excited to be in New York! There are so many amazing people here to learn and grow with. This opportunity means a lot to me.
