A Weekend on Gran Canaria Island
While on my trip to Spain, I thought a mini trip would be a great way to spend one of my weekends. I came to Gran Canaria, the largest in a set of Spanish archipelagos off the southern coast of Morocco. What an unbelievable place! I only wish I had more time to explore, and as a note to fellow travelers, make sure you rent a car because getting around the island is a little tough without one. The bus system is great, but can be spotty on the weekends. I stayed in a lovely Airbnb apartment in Moya called El Roque, with the most incredible view of the coast. Secluded and quiet, this place is a haven for anyone looking to step out of their life for a few days.
There are plenty of things to do on the island, but I chose a quiet island life, wandering by foot as far as the small roads would take me in either direction, before becoming cliffs or highways. I can become overwhelmed by my options sometimes, when traveling (or name anything else for that matter) so I think sometimes it's nice to see only what you can by foot, and leave the roads for a later date.
The dull roar of the ocean lulled me to sleep every night, and the weather at average 70F and breezy every day topped off a perfect mini trip. It's back to Barcelona for me, and then New York for the next semester of graduate school. Not a bad life I live. So blessed.
Cheers,
&
