UX/UI & Branding

GDPRSIMPLE IS A SAAS PLATFORM CREATED TO HELP SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS IMPLEMENT THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION ACT (GDPR) FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS SECURE DATA.

CHALLENGE:

Our client challenged us to create a user friendly SaSS platform for the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) change in May 2018. as Lead UX Designer I was tasked with running the Discovery Workshop design sprint with the client. Our sprint was used to unify the client team on identify insights, assumptions, client needs as well as downloading with the client on who they think their target user is and what they need, scope and deliverables for the project were then drawn out as well as my research plan.

The plan I created included branding with illustration and color palette as well as simplifying the clients logo design, creating user flows, customer journeys, wire frames and mock ups to be iterated on and handed off to development. We would then build and user test a prototype to keep the design dna intact and make suer we are building for the right reasons and using best practices .

RESEARCH:

In order to gain insight and background on data protection regulations, we dove deep into the research phase of our challenge. interviewing experts as well as those who are new to the process was a way to see what challenges they might face and best practices on how to make it digestible and easy.

We consulted websites, articles, government policies, and similar systems to find what would work best for the average user as well as those seasoned in practice.

PERSONAS, USERFLOWS, AND CUSTOMER JOURNEYS WERE CREATED TO SHOW OUR CLIENT POSSIBLE OUTCOMES AND OPTIONS.

DESIGN & BRANDING:

BRANDING WENT THROUGH MANY STAGES AND ITERATIONS. WE WANTED IT TO BE USED TO CREATE AN INVITING ATMOSPHERE AND GLOBAL QUALITY.

WE LANDED ON SOME GRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS THAT SEEMED TO CAPTURE A HUMAN FORM BUT REMAINED NEUTRAL TO GENDER, RACE AND ETHNICITY. I KEPT THAT IN MIND WHILE ITERATING ON THE COLOR PALETTE, SHAPE, FORM, AND CHARACTER QUALITIES.

WIREFRAMING:

Framing gives opportunity to try out a few different options for display and functionality of the sites main objectives. we wanted to make sure that users felt they had a home base with their previously created documents, and the ability to generate new documents quickly and easily. We also wanted to make sure that users had access to the materials and references they expressed a need for to understand what gdpr was asking them to get from their customers. knowing that drop off rate can be caused by lengthy forms and information grabs.

We had to think from the users perspective and keep trust and understanding top of mind when designing a platform that is made to capture sensitive data.

SOLUTION:

our final product was designed with the user in mind, keeping with the dna of the insights we found in research. after several iterations the final product created a simple and easy to use platform for generating documents specific to the users needs, as well as organizing the information they need stored in one place.

Easy to use.

Empathizing with the customers who might not have a background in data protection (who does?) we created a SaaS platform with easy to follow instructions, reference guides for those who want to dig a little deeper, and a progress bar to help encourage users through. We also featured the ability to save a document and come back to it later for those who are in a hurry.

By keeping the users needs at the forefront of everything we created, we were able to prioritize with ease of use at every step.

Organization.

Most small business owners needed an organized area to find what they need fast and implement it when necessary.

Keeping this in mind, we used our branded graphics to create subtle alerts and notifications on which folders and documents needed updating the most, without being too pushy or extreme. Think light suggestion meets friendly icon! We also made sure to include a dashboard with all recent team activities, so everyone logged in can stay on the same page. #teamwork!

Educational.

Since the GDPR act effects everyone who sells a product or service and needs to collect information from its customers, it's safe to say learning a little bit about what that means is best practice.

Our research showed us that most business owners feel more comfortable asking their beloved customers to fill out information when they themselves understand what it is they are collecting. For that we created reference guides and a heavy FAQ section, so that users can gain all the insights they need on anything site or GDPR related.
